Bronchoscopy is an endoscopic diagnostic method which helps to visualize trachea and bronchi interface and if it is needed either to record its image on the video or to make a photo of it. Bronchoscopy helps to investigate mucous membrane and its folds, submucosal vascular pattern, configuration of orifice and spur of bronchi, level of subsegmental bronchi. Bronchoscopy includes biopsy manipulation with further cytological research of the sample and treatment procedures. Thoracoscopy is an endoscopic research method of internal surface of pleural cavity. Thoracoscopy was introduced by a Sweden surgeon Jacobeus in 1910. He used a modified cystoscope to control pleura and created artificial pneumatothorax used in the treatment of patients suffered from pulmonary tuberculosis. Achievements of the last decades in the sphere of optical and video technologies have raised diagnostic and treatment importance of thoracoscopy. |
